Wreck of the Moonlight and Kent

December 3, 2017 Don

One of our many dive-able wrecks in Marquette’s Underwater Preserve, is the Charles J. Kershaw. It is located near the rock cut on US HWY 41 near Harvey. The Kershaw foundered in a September storm in 1895 on Chocolay reef with the Moonlight and Kent in tow (pictured).

The wreckage of the Kershaw can be explored at a depth of approximately 25′ with her boiler being a highlight of this dive. Much of her hull has been scattered over the years with some sections still nearby and worth exploring.
